License Plate Wall Art

free printable wall art

So, once upon a time I had a really terrible job. I also perpetually had nothing to do at said job. So, one day, way back when...I was inspired to create this! I had always loved things like this or that and I decided to make my own. Digitally, of course. And, if you like it as much as I do, you can download it for free HERE!

Update: 4 Simple Goals

Elsie over at A Beautiful Mess inspired me to create 4 Simple Goals (before 2013) and I thought it would be appropriate to give an update! I had planned to take all of these amazing abstract photos of exercise equipment,  craft projects, and food..But, well...the Holidays are upon us and well..uh..I never got around to it. So, this here is the best I can do at the (very busy) moment.

1. Read and Ellipticise. So, I've been trying to make this a habit for the majority of my adult life. I do really well at times, and other times I completely fall off the wagon. Well, I am happy to report that for the past few months, my husband and I have take a few days a week to exercise together! It's been a really fun experience. I also have found time to read a few magazines and even a book!
2. Eating Healthy. This too, has been an ongoing goal for me. I really enjoy healthy foods, but, just like exercising...I tend to fall off the wagon in times of stress. I have recently reading about the Paleo lifestyle and instantly became intrigued. For the past month I have been following this "diet" about 85% of the time. I have consumed very little grain, dairy, legumes, and sugar in the last month and guess what?!? I FEEL AMAZING. I instantly lost 7lbs, all inflammation and bloating, I haven't had a head ache or a body ache, and I sleep a l l  t h e  w a y  t h r o u g h the night, which has basically never happened! I would say, I highly recommend giving it a try for 30 days!
3. Sew something. I am again happy to report that I have sewn something and I will be sharing it soon. It's a bit strange, so hold onto your britches. I also sewed a few samples for work, which was a nice change-up.
4. Handmade Home. Well, this is my least successful of the 4 goals. However, I have rearranged the nick-knacks around the house, started making curtains, and designed a few prints for the walls.

I still have a month left and I plan to keep up the good work! -Ruth-

Simple Homemade Spaghetti Sauce

Simple Homemade Spaghetti Sauce Ingredients: 1 can tomato paste // 1 can stewed tomatoes // 1-2 cloves fresh garlic // 1-2 tbsp basil (fresh or dried) // 2 Italian sausages (optional) // Parmesan cheese // Olive Oil // French Rolls.  First, boil water. Brown Italian sausages. Once browned, add garlic and saute a few minutes more. Blend stewed tomatoes and basil in a separate container or blender. Add tomato mixture to the pan with the sausages and garlic. Next, combine tomato paste and Parmesan cheese. Stir. Prepare your french roll by cutting in half lengthwise, brush with olive oil and boil for approximately 3-5 minutes. While bread is toasting, add pasta to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions. Cut 1 clove of garlic in half. Remove bread from the broiler and rub the garlic on the toasted side of the bread. Drain pasta, assemble, and enjoy! -Ruth-

Black Bean Soup

Recipe
Simple Black Bean Soup recipe

Simple. Healthy. Delicious. Black bean soup w/ a side salad has become a new lunch staple for me ever since the weather has started to turn. I have made several smaller batches of this soup, according to the recipe below, but this last time, I made a really large batch so I could freeze portions for my lunch. I love that this soup is easily adaptable to your taste and you can have so much fun adding or subtracting different ingredients.
Black Bean Soup Ingredients: 2 cans of whole black beans // 1 can stock // 1 can tomatoes w/ green chilies // 1 cup onion // 1 cup shredded carrots // 1/2 cup cilantro // 1-2 cloves garlic // salt and pepper to taste. First, saute onion, garlic, and carrot in a bit of olive oil. Then, add stock and tomatoes and green chilies. Cook on low for a few minutes. Add black beans and cilantro. Using an immersion blender, blend until smooth. Add salt and pepper to taste. Cook on low for a few minutes more. -Ruth

One Jackson

One Jackson is a unique line of children's wear created by indie designers, like myself. They are based out of San Francisco and I first found out about them through Craigslist. They were running an ad seeking out independent fashion designers who were interested in participating in contests. The contests would be judged by the community of customers and the winning designs would be manufactured and sold in there online shop

Really neat idea, right? I thought so too! I was so eager to participate and created tons of design sketches and submitted them to the different contests. To my surprise, I ended up with 10 winning designs. The photographs shown here are the first design of the ten that will be sold on their online shop. I recently received samples of my winning designs for the upcoming Winter '12 collection. They are adorable!!! I wish I could share them with you now, but I guess you'll just have to wait. -Ruth-

Places and Spaces; Waco, Texas (Part II)

Norfolk Terrier

Mark and I had to make a trip down to Waco back in mid September. I only shared a brief glimpse of the trip in this last post, but I thought it would be nice to share the entire photograph this time! We haven't made it much further south than Waco, and no further north than Amarillo, but I hope to schedule some weekend trips to see more of this great Lone Star State. -Ruth-

Production Design

Hey y'all one of my last posts  inspired me to start a "production" design series. I already have a "design" tab in place, here, where I share some of the graphic type art that I design. And often times, FREE printables. Like thisor this one, and even this one! But, I think it might be a lot of fun to document what I'm doing all day at work. It is a big part of my life, right?

Lately, I've been working on A LOT of production design. I have been super busy lately. The orders just keep rolling in, which is a great problem to face! Basically, when I say production design, it means the artwork that is sent to the factory for bulk production. I take the designs, that I or another designer have created and I strategically place all of the artwork and logos in place for printing. With sublimation, the factory pretty much takes my files and clicks print. So, the garments are printed as is...Meaning, if I make a mistake my company will literally have to pay for it! Uh-oh...no good. So, I really have to stay focused while completing these orders.

Often times, I am doing 3-5 of these a day, so I find that the Pomodoro Technique  works quite well for my situation. I also break up production orders with a bit of design, various office tasks, pattern making, or graphic type design.I must say, not a bad way to spend my days. -Ruth-

Caramel Milkshake

Caramel milkshakes are one of my favorite things about Summer and since the warm days are coming to a close here in Texas, I want to take a moment and reminisce about all the wonderful things I will miss about the season. This is one of them...my all-time favorite way to eat ice cream. In fact, I'm not even a fan of ice cream unless it's melted or blended. Can you believe that? I only take my ice cream melted! For this homemade specialty, I used 2 cups of vanilla ice cream, a dash of vanilla, 1 cup of cold milk, 1/3 cup caramel topping, and an obscene amount of whipped cream. Enjoy! -Ruth

Just my face...

Just my face, No make-up, blemishes and un-plucked eyebrows. This is me on most days of the week month...Life is busy...sometimes to busy to stop and really appreciate what is important in our lives. I've embarked on a new decade in this life and I intend to make my 30's a time to really step back and appreciate the things that are truly important in my life. I will create my days, weeks, and months with intention and be grateful for this beautiful life I've been given. I will embrace and cherish the time spent with my husband, friends, and family. I will prioritize what is important to me and my husband and cultivate new routines to continue to create a life that I can look back on and reminisce about how blessed I was.

A bit of heavy thought on a big day, Election day 2012. What happens in America today will move our country in a new direction. And our future successes depend on it.. I can only pray that the best administration prevails....
