Beautiful Sunsets and family visits

beautifu sunray sunset
I am preparing for my folks and my grandmothers visit!!!! YAY! They will be coming this Saturday and will be hanging out for a whole week! I haven't seen my family since Christmas, so I am totally excited for their visit!
We gave a lot of fun things planned. We will be attending the Dallas Farmers Market, canning our own stewed tomatoes, visiting the Fort Worth Stockyards, as well as Downtown Grapevine. We plan on cooking lots of great home cooked meals and enjoying the Texas heat! Happy Monday! -Ruth-

Green Thumb

Jeans (Old Navy) Top, tank, and cardi (Target) Shoes (Minnetonka)
Belt (Ruff Hewn) Necklace (Sam Moon)

I LOVE this little spot right by my front door. It is full of beautiful bushes, trees, flowers, and my herb garden. Since moving into our first house, I have really enjoyed gardening and yard work. I actually have enjoyed the art of "homemaking" more than I thought I would. Something about a beautiful, clean home just gives you such a sense of accomplishment.

I happen to have a love affair with the 60's Hippie vibe. So, I have created a Hippie chic look using Polyvore. Then, I created a second look, inspired by the first based on my budget! You can check out the breakdown for yourself by following the links I've provided.

Awesome, the look I love, under $100 !!!

Total Cost (w/out taxes) Polyvore look:     $910

Fossils and Feathers

Purse (Fossil) Feather Earring (Sam Moon)

I just adore anything vintage. I thrifted this darling bag something like 7 or 8 years back at a Unique Thrift Store in Chicago. Let me just say that Unique is one of the most top notch second hand stores I've had the pleasure of visiting! Unfortunately, these stores do not venture far from the Chicagoland area. But, boy if they did.

If you haven't already noticed, this is my favorite feather earring! Sam Moon is an awesome (and cheap) jewelry and accessory store that I hadn't heard of until moving to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Just like Unique, I think Sam Moon is just located in the DFW area. Anyway, you can totally shop their website and I'd highly recommend it!

What's your favorite local gem?

Rainy Day Blue Jeans

t

Tank/Cardigan (Target) Blue Jeans/Belt (Old Navy)
Loafers (Thrifted) Necklace/Earrings (Sam Moon)

Over the last couple of weeks we have had quite a few thunderstorms here in North Texas. Which, I guess, is good considering our drought last year. However, it's not good when your husband works outside and work is cancelled for several days in a row. But, the good side of that is we had a rare weekday to spend some time together! And I mean RARE!!! I am usually at work myself, but since I'm between jobs (literally a long weekend between) we were both home at the same time! We are looking forward to this long weekend!! YAY!

Did I mention we have 4 pet birds?

Top (Target) Trousers (Old Navy) Feather earring (Sam Moon)
Belt and bracelet (Mexican Flea Market)

Every since I was little, I always dreamed of having thick, luscious locks. Well, that just wasn't in the cards now was it! So, when it comes to the feather earring, how do I wear it? I just don't have a full enough head of hair to pull it off. Well, I like to pull my hair into a side do and then slide the earring through the bobby pin. Walla! I get to have my feathers and wear them too!

How do you fly your feathers?

Disclaimer: No pet birds were injured in the making of this earring! They are safe and sound in their cage!

Bark in the Park

A few weeks ago, my husband and I had the pleasure of attending the annual Texas Rangers Bark in the Park!!! We had so much fun! There were 786 other dogs present at the event. And, if you can believe it all of those dogs paraded around the warning track before the game, without incident! Well, I guess Sophee took a leak on right field, but that's expected, right? Tillman the famous skateboarding dog was there to host the event and he even through out the first pitch! No, really. They strapped the ball to his back and he ran full force toward home plate. Adorable!!! We had so much fun bringin our pup to a major league game. She was very well behaved and we hope to attend next years Bark in the Park! Ruff!

Places and Spaces; Stevie's Diner

This morning on our way to run a few errands we came across this little place, Stevie's Diner. Well, we have a passion for awesome diner's and since there are not many here in North Texas, and we had not yet had breakfast, we decided to stop in. Boy, am I glad we did! This place is a diamond in the ruff! It is decorated with all kinds of sweet vintage decor. Including old records, authentic signage, dishes, rare artifacts, and soooo much more!

The place in owned by a local family who has a love for retro vintage, obviously! The sister of the owner, Stevie, told us we should see his home! I can only image how awesome it is!!! The staff was incredible, as was the food! I can't wait to go back!!!
