Frosted Mason Jars

Frosted Mason Jars DIY VIDEO Tutorial

So, they say great minds think alike. No? I've been working on this tutorial for some time now (because I'm trying something new-VIDEO!). Ok, and because it's been sitting in my drafts for a month now. Sigh. Well, I wasn't going to share this because this tutorial popped up just around the same time I was working on this one. Oh, well. I figure, I've put so much time into it that I ought to share it anyway. Nonetheless, it was a great learning experience. Leave me a comment and let me know what you think about the video. It's my first attempt at DIY video and it's a lot harder than it looks! Can you say serious white balance and exposure issues!  Hey, I'm no videographer!

  Supplies
Small Mason Jars
Elmers School Glue
Paints and Paint Brushes
Sponge

First, Make sure your mason jars are nice an clean. Coat one side with glue and smooth with a sponge. Let dry completely and repeat process on the other side. Once the jar is dry, you can paint fun patterns using your paints!

2013 Insta-Recap || 2013 Insta-Fav's

2013 was an awesome year! Many exciting things happened. I mentioned some of my "professional" highlights in my 2013 year in review post. However, there were a few personal highlights as well. For instance, we added a new member to our family! HENRY!  He is truly the best! We couldn't have found a more perfect fit for us!

Also, I really tried heaps of new recipes this year. I really stepped out of my comfort zone and tried so many new things! Most of which were a success! I don't discuss it much on the blog. But..In 2013 I followed a loose Paleo diet. I've sort of adapted the Paleo guidelines to really work for myself and my husband. I have found it to be super successful! And the bonus is that it is something sustainable! This recipe is one of my favorites and I think you should try it out!

Another personal highlight in 2013 is that I have really refined the household products that I use. I make many of my own hygiene and cleaning products like this one and this one. I also started using Wen hair care and LOVE it! I plan on sharing some of my homemade cleaning products with y'all this year!

So, as we wrap up 2013 and embark on 2014...I look back and am grateful for everything God provided for my family. Cheers to making 2014 ROCK!

Easy Canvas Prints

US License Plate Art || Isn't that Sew
Hey Guys! A while back I ordered a canvas print from Easy Canvas Prints. Since I'm not one of those ladies who wants a 16 X 20 wedding photo, I chose one of my favorite graphic designs! I love this piece! It took my hours to create! Those are all actual images of license plates that have been vectorized! YIKES! Took me forever! But, I think it was well worth it. I like how this canvas turned out. It's really nicely printed and is sturdy. Can't go wrong!

The prints tend to be pricey, but if you sign up for the mailing list, you'll get a fifty percent off coupon just about every other day, making them much more affordable! And, you can even download this License plate art for free! CLICK HERE to download!

I received a free 16X20 canvas print from Easy Canvas Prints for use in connection with this blog.

Places and Spaces || The Perot Museum Part 2

As I mentioned in THIS POST, we went to visit The Perot Museum in downtown Dallas when my cousins visited last month. What drew us to visit was the Animals Inside Out Exhibit. I've seen Body Worlds in the past...and this exhibit, while not quite as extensive, was just as awesome! These are a few of my favorite shots from the exhibit. Hope you like Animals, Inside Out! -Ruth-

Bacon wrapped Thai Chicken bites

Bacon Wrapped Thai Chicken Roll-ups || www.isntthatsew.com

Bacon wrapped, oh...You've got my attention! Practically anything wrapped in bacon tastes, well...AMAZING! That is if your into that sort of thing. These little sweet n' spicy treats make an amazing appetizer or meal! I like to make them during football season and they would be perfect for Superbowl Sunday festivities! Plus, they are super easy to make!
Bacon Wrapped Thai Chicken Roll-ups || www.isntthatsew.com

375° || 25-30 Minutes
Bacon Wrapped Thai Chicken Bites
yields approx. 12-24 bites

2 Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breasts
1lb. Bacon (approx.)
2-3 Bell Peppers
Sweet Chili Sauce

First, preheat oven to 375°. Next, prepare the bell pepper by cutting into thin 2" strips. Followed up by slicing chicken breast first in half lengthwise. Once you've cut chicken lengthwise, cut each half into 3 long strips and cut in half if you desire smaller bites. Repeat with second breast. Now, lay a piece of bacon flat (if you've made smaller bites, cut bacon in half too). Place a strip of chicken atop the bacon and add some peppers to one end. Roll everything together in a nice, neat roll up and secure with a toothpick or two. Place roll ups side by side on a baking sheet and brush with sweet chili sauce. Cook on bottom rack for approx. 25-35 minutes. Half-way through, flip bites and brush with another generous coating of sweet chili sauce. I hope you enjoy these delicious snacks!

Places and Spaces || The Perot Museum Part 1

The Perot Museum || Dallas, Texas || www.isntthatsew.com
Back in mid-December, a couple of my cousins swung by on their way to the Spartan Race in Glenrose, Texas. It was fun to have them here for a few days! We really wanted to visit I Fly ...but, they were booked solid because the place is brand new. So, we went to see Animals Inside Out at the The Perot Museum instead. We had a blast. The Perot has all kinds of neat things; like a musical stair case, heaps of awesome exhibits, and this awesome wall! Check it out! -Ruth-

Year in Review || 2013

2013 Year in Review
Wow, another year gone by. It is amazing how the older you get, the faster life seems to pass us by. It happens so quickly. Another day, another month, another year.....and dare I say, another decade! YIKES! This year has been an exiting year for me here at Isn't that Sew. I sort of shifted my focus from blogging to creating a business half way through the year. However, in 2014 I want to continue this lifestyle blog that began this journey for me. I really enjoy everything about blogging and owning a business and I plan on working hard to create balance between the two this year! And now, for my top three highlights.

Highlights
Opened up Shop: Isn't that Sew Handmade was born in late August! This was so exciting for me. I love creating with my hands..and I especially love working with metals and power tools. Plus, metalsmithing is so similar to Dental lab work that it helps to fill the void of leaving the Dental field. I have big future plans for ITS Handmade. I'm not sure if they will come alive in 2014...or if it will be early 2015. But, it's going to happen!
Sponsored Giveaways: ITS Handmade sponsored several giveaways this year! This was both new to me and exciting! I plan to do a select few giveaways in 2014.
Artisan Group: While I didn't officially announce it, in early November I applied to become a member of The Artisan Group. This group is an elite juried community of talented artisans who collectively provide a lovely sampling of handcrafted products to celebrities and members of the press at major award shows and to popular prime time TV Show stylists. Well, great news, I was accepted. I've already submitted one of my designs to a popular CW TV Show, as well as signed up for press gifting at the GBK MTV Movie awards, and for Earth Day gifting! I've officially jumped in head first and I couldn't be more excited about the exposure that The Artisan Group will give me! So far I've found this group to be so supportive and have met some amazing small business owners, just like myself!

Cheers to a successful 2014 filled with love, joy, and happiness! -Ruth-

Holiday Recap || Reyes Family Tradition || Part 2

As I mentioned in Mondays Post, it's part of our family tradition to beat a piñata every year. But, what I didn't mention...was sometimes Granny attacks! Haha! No, really. That doesn't usually happen. To be honest, I'm not even sure why she started hitting her daughter with a broken plastic bat. Yeah, the bats we used are plastic, broken, and duct taped together! I guess so we can't do as much damage! Enjoy! -Ruth-

Holiday Recap || A Reyes Family tradition || Part 1

Every Christmas, Mark, the dogs, and I travel home to Chicago for the Holiday. Our families are really important to us...while, we love Texas (read we will never move back to Illinois) we miss our families something terrible.

My family has some strange traditions for the Holidays. For instance, we always eat unusual enchiladas (tortillas fried in a spicy chili sauce and stuffed with potato, onion, chorizo, and cheese. YUM), we beat the crap out of a piñata (we even have one for the "adult" grandchildren and their spouses), we dance to things like the chicken dance and the macarena, and best of all...we play musical chairs!

One of my goals for this new year is to make more videos...Well, here is one of my first! Enjoy! -Ruth-

Insta-Recap || December 2013

Ruth Loiacano Instagram

And...it's over. Just like that! 2013 has come and gone! December was a great month though. Well, except for the weather! It's had it's ups and downs! Mark and I were blessed to have some much needed time off at the end of December. We were able to travel home and spend a whole week with family and friends! That hasn't happened since we moved to Texas! Needless to say, it was very nice!

A few other notable events; the DFW Ice storm, heaps of toasty fires, and our tip to The Perot Museum to see Animals Inside Out. I have plans to share some of those photographs with you later this month! I've seen Body Worlds before, and the Animals were just as fantastic.

How did you spend your Holiday?
